During lockdown, beauty salons have had to shut down to comply with the current laws. While shut, they have been able to help stop the spread of COVID-19. With Boris Johnson’s new roadmap out of lockdown though, you’ll see that salons can start opening up again. What will beauty treatments look like post lockdown, and what do you need to know before you book your appointment?
COVID Roadmap And Reopening Salons
The current roadmap that’s in place shows the earliest possible opening dates of all sectors of the economy. Beauty salons come under the personal care sector of the economy, so there are clear dates when you can expect them to open. It’s worth being aware though, these are just the earliest dates and they can be put back if the risk is still judged to be too high.
From the 12th April, most beauty salons will be able to reopen. To do this, they will need to follow all COVID precautions to help prevent spread. That includes mask wearing, social distancing, extra cleaning, and so on. This rule extends to mobile beauticians, who have not been allowed to operate under lockdown. If they use the proper precautions, they too can start operating again.
The one exception to this rule is saunas and steam rooms at spas, which will not be permitted to open until 17th May at the earliest.
With this in mind, most salons are now taking bookings from the 12th April. There’s certainly a lot of interest in attending salons, as Lashtique have seen a whopping 244% increase in online bookings. With that in mind, you’ll need to book sooner rather than later.
Reopening Salons In The UK
How will reopening look in other areas of the UK? In Wales, all salons are still closed until as review of lockdown will happen on the 12th March.
In Scotland, most of the country is under a Level 4 lockdown. This prevents beauty salons from opening up, although areas in Level 3 can open with the right precautions. If the country can move into Level 3, then salons can start to open up from 26th April.
In Northern Ireland, the lockdown is remaining in place until 1st April. They will then review the situation to see when businesses like beauty salons can reopen.
How Treatments Will Work Post Lockdown
Once you can start visiting a salon again, what will treatments look like? What will you have to do to remain safe when you book a treatment?
It’s important to remember that no matter what precautions are in place, the quality of the service you get will be the same. You can book in confidence as you’ll be able to access the same services as you could before lockdown.
In most areas, you’ll be required to wear a face mask and gloves. Of course, there are exceptions. If you’re getting a facial you won’t be able to wear a mask, and if you’re getting a manicure you can’t wear gloves. In all other instances though, you can get a treatment while wearing both. Technicians will be wearing full PPE including masks, face shields and gloves. With these precautions in place, both of you will be kept safe.
You’ll also see that you may be waiting longer for an appointment. COVID precautions ask that there’s a 2 metre distance between all chairs, so they won’t be able to fill the salon as they did before. You’ll need to keep this in mind, especially because beauticians will be losing out on business because of this. With this in mind, you can help by arriving on time so they can stay on schedule.
