When it comes to eyelash extensions, there’s more choice than you thought possible. Whether you want a full dramatic set of lashes, or just something to avoid needing mascara every day, you’ll find a set of lashes that fit your needs. Here are all the different styles of eyelash extensions and their benefits, so you can choose the one that’s right for you.
Types Of Lash Extensions
So what can you get in terms of eyelash extensions? There are three main styles you have to choose from: Classic, Russian volume and hybrid lashes.
Classic: This is what you’ll think of when you think of eyelash extensions. Your technician will attach one extension per eyelash, so you’ll get a natural yet enhanced look. The extensions give you extra curl and length, as well as some extra volume. They’re perfect if you want to skip the mascara every morning. The outcome of this look very much depends on your natural lashes. The more lashes you have, the fuller the look will be. If you already have quite full eyelashes and just want to enhance them, this is the way to go.
Russian volume: This look is taking the online beauty world by storm, and it’s not hard to see why. You may also know these lashes as Mega Volume or 4D lashes, as they really up the ante. Instead of one eyelash extension being glued to each eyelash, anywhere from 2 to 8 eyelash extensions are glued to a single eyelash. This requires a special type of eyelash extension, as of course having more extensions will make them heavier. Lightweight extensions are used and applied in ‘fans’ to get the look you’re going for.
Hybrids: As the name implies, hybrids are a mix between classic and Russian volume lashes. You’ll get a similar dramatic style as you would with Russian volume lashes, but they won’t be as heavy or maintenance heavy as them. They use a mix of classic eyelash extensions, that are sandwiched around a hybrid extension, to create a fuller look.
Which Should You Choose?
Still not sure which lashes are for you? Then its a good idea to find a salon or mobile lash technician and get their expert opinion. Then you’ll need to consider what you’re looking for in your lashes.
Firstly, think about how intense you want the look to be. Do you want it to be good for every day looks? Then classic lashes will be perfect for you. If you want something more dramatic for a big event, holidays, or just because, then go for hybrids or Russian volume lashes.
Also, think about the maintenance they’ll need. Classic lashes can be left in place for around 4 to 6 weeks, so you can leave it a little later before you go back to the salon. If you go for heavier Russian volume lashes, they can fall out more quickly. That means you’ll be going back for top ups a little more often.
You’ll also need to think about the material each lash extension is made of. Many eyelash extensions are made of materials such as mink, which give you a full and perfect flutter. However, if you want an animal friendly option, then there are some amazing synthetic options available. Russian volume lashes use synthetic lashes as they’re lighter, so keep that in mind.
Taking Care Of Your Eyelashes
Whichever look you go for with your eyelashes, you’ll need to take care of them to get the absolute most out of them. How do you keep them looking fabulous?
Once you’ve had the extensions applied, don’t get them wet for at least 24 hours. You’ll also need to take care with the beauty products you buy. Cream eyeshadows and oil based products, like eye liners and make up removers, can dissolve the glue holding your lashes in place. In the morning, use a spoolie to comb them out and keep them looking their best.
Also, never attempt to remove them yourself. This can cause damage to your natural lashes. Always go to a technician who can use the right products to remove them and oversee the process. These days there’s more choice when it comes to eyelash extensions than you thought possible.
